Liberty to Face Presbyterian in Big South Series, This Weekend

1. Liberty will be making its first trip to Clinton, S.C. since 2014, this weekend. The Flames swept the three-game series against Presbyterian at PC Baseball Complex, March 28-30.

2. The Flames have posted a 6-6 mark halfway through their 2016 Big South Conference season. Liberty  has posted a 5-1 mark at home and a 1-5 record in conference play.

3. 23 out Liberty's 39 games have been decided by two runs or less and 17 by one run. The Flames enter the week, averaging 5.79 runs per game,  while allowing 5.17 runs per game, this season.

4. The Flames is in the midst of playing seven of its next eight and eight of its next 10 games on the road to finish out the month of April.  The string began last Friday at Campbell and will end at William & Mary, this upcoming Wednesday.

• SS Dalton Britt h 7-or-9 with three doubles in his past two games, Tuesday and Wednesday.

• Britt collected three hits and a RBI against Duke, Tuesday. He followed up by going 4-for-4 with three doubles, a RBI and walk on Wednesday. He scored twice for the Flames.

• 2B Will Shepherd hit home runs, number four and five of the season, Wednesday at Richmond. The 2B hit a two-run home run in the seventh and a solo blast in the ninth. He walked twice and scored three runs.

• Shepherd and OF D.J. Artis each had two hits and a RBI against Duke, Tuesday. Artis scored twice, while Shepherd also plated a run in the contest.

• Shepherd is tied for sixth with 34 runs scored and tied for 10th with five home runs in the Big South Conference.

• Meanwhile, Artis leads the Big South with a .524 on base percentage. He is fifth with a .380 batting average and 36 runs scored.  The OF is second with 39 walks and 18 stolen bases.

• RHP Shane Quarterley leads the Flames in appearances with 18.  Currently, Quarterley is second in saves (6), tied for third in appearances, and tied for sixth in wins (5) in the Big South.

• Quarterley pitched out of two bases-loaded jams in the seventh and ninth to earn his sixth save of the year in Liberty's 3-0 victory over Campbell, Sunday.

• LHP Victor Cole gave up two hits and struck out nine, last Friday night at Campbell. The left-hander pitched his second complete game of the year.

• Cole went seven innings, allowing two runs, to record the victory in 10-2 victory over Charleston Southern, April 8.

• Cole is tied for second with an opponent batting average of .190  and is fifth with 56 strikeouts in the Big South.

• RHP Jack DeGroat pitched six scoreless innings, scattering three hits and tying a career-high with six strikeouts, in Liberty's 3-0 win, last Sunday. DeGroat recorded the win to move to 2-2 on the year.

• RHP Evan Mitchell gave up one run on five hits over 7 2/3 innings, this past Saturday.  Currently, he is sixth in the Big South and leads the Flames with a 2.31 ERA.

• OF Josh Close received his first two starts of the season, this past Saturday and Sunday. Close had a RBI double in the Flames' 3-0 victory over Campbell, Sunday.
