Lady Flames Look to End Losing Skid

The Liberty Lady Flames lacrosse team looks to end its seven-game losing skid on Saturday against Coastal Carolina. The contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Brooks Field in Conway, S.C.

Last Time Out
The Lady Flames fell to Winthrop in their Big South opener on Wednesday by the final score of 17-6 at the Liberty Lacrosse Field. With the loss, Liberty fell to 1-9 overall on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Pridemore sisters, Hannah and Katy, paced the offense for the Lady Flames. Each Pridemore sister notched two goals, accounting for four of Liberty's six tallies. Katherine Widrick garnered the start in goal for Liberty, falling to 1-7 on the season after allowing 17 goals and recording six saves.

Same Name, Double the Trouble
Senior captains Kallie Britton and Callie Francis rank second and third on the team in points. Francis currently ranks second in points (19) and second in assists (7), falling in behind Kayla Foster in both categories. The redshirt senior has also accounted for 12 goals, ranking second behind Britton. Britton leads the team in goals scored with 16. The Kansas native has also accounted for 18 points. Britton and Francis have combined for 27 ground balls, 22 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers.

Freshman Poise
Kayla Foster has stepped up in a tremendous way for the Liberty offense. Foster leads the team in both points (22) and assists (12). The Pennsylvania native is also third on the team in goals with 10.

Brittons Got Talent
Sisters Abby and Kallie Britton have accounted for 24 goals and three assists thus far. Kallie leads the team in goals with 16, while Abby ranks fourth on the team with eight. Abby, a sophomore midfielder, has surged onto the scene for the Lady Flames. The Kansas native recorded one goal a season ago and has netted eight goals this season. Kallie has owned up to her label of captain. The senior midfielder has netted a team-best 16 goals and recorded two assists.

Defense Wins Championships
The defensive core of Colleen Ekert, Meghan Hammond, Lindsey McNamara, Victoria Tickle and Melanie Via have anchored the Liberty defense this season. The quintet has combined for 83 of Liberty's 171 ground balls this season, to complement 54 of the Lady Flames' 91 caused turnovers. Ekert leads the squad in ground balls with 27, while Tickle ranks second with 20. Hammond ranks third on the squad in ground balls (15), respectively. Ekert leads the defense in caused turnovers with 21 and ranks No. 17 in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game (2.10). Via has 12 caused turnovers while McNamara and Tickle have 10 and nine, respectively.

Scouting the Chanticleers
Coastal Carolina (5-4, 1-1 Big South) enters Saturday's contest having most recently defeated Presbyterian yesterday by the score of 17-4 in Clinton, S.C. The victory snapped a two-game losing skid for the Chanticleers and also served as their first conference victory this season.

Coastal Carolina is led by Sara Nolan with 26 points on 21 goals and five assists. Maggie Carr ranks second on the team in points with 21 (6 goals, 15 assists). As a team the Chanticleers are being outscored 80-77 this season, while also losing both the draw control (87-81) and ground ball (143-126) battles.

Liberty owns the 3-1 edge in the all-time series between the two programs. The Lady Flames defeated Coastal Carolina twice in 2015 with the first victory coming on April 6, 2015 when Liberty bested the Chanticleers 18-8 in Lynchburg, Va. The two squads met in the Big South Lacrosse Championship semifinals on May 1, 2015, where the Lady Flames defeated Coastal Carolina by the final score of 14-8 in Rock Hill, S.C. to advance to the conference title game against Winthrop.

What's Next?
Following Saturday's contest, the Lady Flames will return to action on Wednesday when they host Longwood at 4 p.m. at the Liberty Lacrosse Field.
