The Liberty Lady Flames tennis squad dropped its first contest of the 2016 season, falling to Xavier by a score of 6-1 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The loss drops Liberty to 1-1 on the season while the Musketeers improve to 1-1 on the campaign.

Xavier claimed the doubles point after notching two of three doubles victories. Evangeline Crist and Valerie Thong improved to 2-0 in doubles competition in the spring, downing Sydney Liggins and Amina Ismail, 6-4.

With Liberty trailing, 2-0, Maria Khval cut the Lady Flames' deficit in half by besting Cristina Di Lorenzo in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

The Musketeers claimed the final four matches to take the 6-1 victory over the visiting Lady Flames.

"Xavier outplayed us today," stated head coach Jeff Maren. "They are a good team and showed us the importance of playing with mental strength and heart. My hope is that we will learn from this one and improve as a result."
