A pair of games against 2015 NCAA Women's College World Series participants highlights Liberty's 2016 softball schedule, released today by third-year Head Coach Dot Richardson and her staff.

Liberty will face Women's College World Series competitors Alabama and LSU, along with NCAA Regional finalists UCF and Baylor. In total, the Lady Flames are scheduled to meet eight teams who qualified for the 2015 NCAA Division I Softball Championship. LSU (No. 4), No. 6 Alabama, 16th-ranked UCF and No. 18 Baylor all appeared in the final 2015 national rankings.

Liberty will play 21 home games at the 1,000-seat Liberty Softball Stadium in the venue's second season. The team will host the second annual Liberty Softball Classic along with non-conference doubleheaders against Hampton and Marshall this year.

For the second time in the last three seasons, Liberty will open the season in Florida. The Lady Flames compete at 2015 NCAA Regional Finalist UCF on Feb. 11. The squad then plays in the Dot Richardson Invitational in Clermont, Fla., Feb. 12-13, before facing 2015 WCWS team Alabama, Feb. 14 at UCF.

The Lady Flames travel to Waco, Texas, to play in the Getterman Classic the following weekend, Feb. 19-21. While in Waco, Liberty is scheduled to face 2015 Regional finalist Baylor, along with North Texas and Northwestern State.

A week-long trip to Louisiana begins with the Louisiana Tech Classic, Feb. 26-27, before Liberty travels to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the LSU Invitational, March 4-5. LSU finished its 2015 season in the national semifinals.

Liberty opens its home schedule by hosting the 2016 Liberty Softball Classic, March 10-13. Participating teams in this year's field include Norfolk State, La Salle, Rhode Island and Sacred Heart.      The team will remain home to begin Big South play, with a weekend series against Winthrop, March 18-19.

After a series at Coastal Carolina (March 25-26), the Lady Flames play a twin bill at Virginia Tech, March 30. Liberty then hosts Hampton for a doubleheader the following day, March 31.

Back-to-back away series at defending Big South champion Longwood and Presbyterian open the Lady Flames' April slate of games.

Liberty closes the season with 12 out of its last 17 games at home, starting with a home doubleheader against Marshall, April 12. The Lady Flames host Campbell for three games, April 15-16 to wrap up a five-game homestand.

Following a quick trip to Virginia on April 20, Liberty plays host to Charleston Southern, April 23-24.

The final week of the regular season sees Liberty travel to Radford, April 26-27, before hosting Gardner-Webb on April 29-30.

Liberty will compete in the 2016 Big South Softball Championship, hosted by Winthrop, from May 11-14. The Big South champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division I Softball Championship, which will begin the weekend of May 20.
