With the fall golf season now in the books, Liberty Flames Sports Network reporter Alan York recently had a chance to catch up with Head Men's Golf Coach Jeff Thomas.

The Flames had a pair of top five finishes during their four-tournament fall schedule, spotlighted by the program's 25th NCAA team victory at the Rees Jones Invitational. Liberty's fall slate was shortened by one event when the Tar Heel Intercollegiate was cancelled due to weather issues related to Hurricane Joaquin.

The Flames opened the fall with a sixth-place showing at the Rod Myers Invitational, followed by their 21-stroke victory at the Rees Jones Invitational. During their only tournament in October, Liberty finished in third place at LSU's David Toms Intercollegiate.

Liberty closed out the fall portion of its 2015-16 schedule by finishing in 13th place out of 18 teams at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic, marking the program's first-ever trip to Hawaii (Maui, Hawaii).

Following the Flames 12th fall season under Thomas, Liberty is currently ranked No. 65 in the country by Golfstat and second in the Big South Conference (Charleston Southern is ranked No. 34).

Liberty's top golfer this fall was sophomore Isaiah Logue, who is individually ranked No. 39 in the country. After earning Big South Freshman of the Year honors, last year, Logue has taken over as Liberty's leader, finishing the fall with a 71.67 stroke average (third best mark in program history).

Michael DeMorat, a transfer from East Florida State, finished top 15 in three of the team's four fall events and posted a 73.83 fall stroke average. Rounding out the top four golfers on Liberty's roster this fall were sophomore Payton Taylor (74.50) and freshman Gabe Lench (74.83).

The Flames will have the next two months to prepare for their first event of the spring, the Sea Best Invitational, as TPC Sawgrass – Dye Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., on Feb. 2-3. The Jacksonville hosted event will be Liberty's first of three-straight events in February in the "Sunshine State."
