Schenz-Davis Wins 2007 Boar's Head Jefferson Cup

Liberty golfer Nathan Schenz-Davis won the 2007 Boar's Head Jefferson Cup at the Birdwood Golf Club in Charlottesville over the weekend.

Schenz-Davis (So., San Diego, Calif.) finished the three-round tournament on Sunday with a four-under par (68) round at the par-72 course. Schenz-Davis entered the final round trailing leader David Passerell by four strokes and proceeded to struggle through the first 14 holes. Finishing well, Schenz-Davis went on to eagle hole 15, a par-5. Hole 16 was a birdie and he posted another eagle on hole 17 before going into the clubhouse with a par on hole 18.

Passerell started the final round on a roll, collecting an eagle and a birdie to put him five-strokes under with eight holes to play. Passerell went on to earn three bogeys over the final stretch to fall to Schenz-Davis.

For the tournament, Schenz-Davis shot a 212 (74-70-68), to win the tournament. This was the first time Schenz-Davis participated in the Boar Head's Jefferson Cup after having the event recommended to him by Liberty Head Golf Coach Jeff Thomas.

Another Liberty golfer also participated in the event. Senior Peter Horstman (72-75-79) shot a 226 for the three-round tournament placing, 12th. Horstman (Sr., Castle Pines, Colo.) finished 10-over for the tournament after spending part of round two in the lead at two-under.

In July, Schenz-Davis placed 12th out of 169 golfers at the 2007 Eastern Amateur at the Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club in Portsmouth, Va.

Schenz-Davis is a sophomore at Liberty after sitting out the 2006-07 season with a redshirt.
