Lady Flames in 5th Following Rutgers Invitational Day 2

Following two days of competition, Liberty is currently in fifth place at the 2015 Rutgers Invitational, with round two taking place on Saturday at RU Aquatics Center.

The Lady Flames sit in fifth position with 534.5 points. Navy is atop the team standings at 1,417.50 followed by tournament host Rutgers with 1,052. Northeastern (715.5), James Madison (609.5) and Liberty (534.5) round out the top half of the 10-team field.

The meet features a similar event program as the 2016 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships. However, unlike the conference championships, the Rutgers Invitational allows for unlimited entries, leading to multiple relays and extra individuals scoring per school.

Liberty's 200 medley relay opened the evening finals session with a fifth-place showing. The quartet of Victoria Tschoke, Prudence Rooker, Kendall Hough and Rachel Hoeve clocked 1:44.42.

The Lady Flames' 800 free relay contingent of Alicia Finnigan, Natalie Beale, Ashlee Sall and Kristin VanDeventer finished fourth. Their time of 7:37.33 ranks fifth on the program's all-time top five performers' list.

Brooke Fox made the A Final in one-meter springboard diving with a 199.70 opening score, before placing eighth in the final, at 189.40. Madi Long qualified for the B Final in 174.25 and scored 200.00 at night for 10th place.

Tschoke took 10th in the 100 back with a 56.82 clocking. Tshcoke qualified in 57.00 during prelims. Hough swam 57.55 in the morning, before placing 16th overall in 58.56 at night. Natalie Beale claimed 28th in 59.07 after qualifying in 59.17. Danielle Boothe (59.38) finished 33rd overall, while Ashley Mauzy (1:02.11) took 46th.

Rooker touched the wall in 1:05.01 during the 100 breaststroke B final to earn 11th place overall after qualifying in 1:06.12. Anna Dickinson's 1:06.48 B Final swim was good for 15th. Morgan Noonan clocked 1:07.36 in prelims, and lowered her season best to 1:06.64 for 20th place at night. Ricki Lee Hodges swam a season-best 1:07.83 during finals to claim 27th. Morgan Weigner earned 33rd position with a time of 1:10.75.

Finnigan led the way for Liberty in the 100 fly, placing 18th overall in 56.88 after a morning swim of 57.79. Ranndi Grubbs tied for 26th in finals, in a season-best time of 57.99, while Ashley Mauzy (58.50) took 29th and Natalie Beale (58.72) earned 31st. Boothe (35th place – 59.00) and Elizabeth Magnusson (48th – 1:01.43) completed morning prelims.

VanDeventer and Sall both posted season bests in the 200 free on Saturday. VanDeventer placed 26th overall in 1:53.81, following a qualifying swim of 1:55.21. Sall took 29th in 1:54.26, after swimming 1:54.66 in the morning. Chelsea Pond clocked a season-best 1:55.80, the 37th-fastest time in preliminary heats. Hoeve (46th – 1:56.69), Magnusson (51st – 1:57.80), Shelby Black (55th – 1:58.80), Siani Null (64th – 2:00.90) and Dani Jordan (67th – 2:01.37) rounded out Liberty's 200 free competitors.

Liberty concludes its participation at the Rutgers Invitational, tomorrow. Day three of the invitational begins at 10 a.m., with 200 backstroke prelims. Tomorrow's finals session starts at 5 p.m. with 1650 free finals, and ends with the 400 free relay.
