Lady Flames to Enter Big South Volleyball Championship as No. 3 Seed

Complete Tournament Bracket

Liberty has drawn the No. 3 seed for the 2015 Big South Volleyball Championship, which will be held from Thursday through Sunday at High Point's Millis Center.

The Lady Flames (14-13, 9-5 Big South) will square off against No. 6 seed Radford (13-14, 6-8) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the fourth quarterfinal match of the day. The winner of Thursday's Liberty-Radford match will take on the winner of No. 2 seed High Point and No. 7 seed Campbell on Friday at 7 p.m.

Liberty and Radford split the regular-season series this year. The Lady Flames downed the Highlanders, 3-1, on Sept. 25 in the conference opener, ending Radford's 15-match home winning streak. The Highlanders then picked up a 3-1 win at Liberty's Vines Center, Oct. 30.

This is the first time in Liberty's 25 years in the Big South that the Lady Flames will meet Radford in the quarterfinal round. The Lady Flames are 4-2 all-time against Radford in the Big South Volleyball Championship, downing the Highlanders in the 1999, 2001 and 2011 finals and the 1997 semifinals. Radford won semifinal matchups against Liberty in 2000 and 2013. In these two teams' last postseason meeting, Radford won a marathon fifth set, 21-19, Nov. 22, 2013 to advance to the final.

Defending champion Coastal Carolina posted a perfect 14-0 record, earning the team's first conference regular-season title since 2008. The Chanticleers are the first Big South team since Winthrop in 2006 (14-0) to go undefeated in regular-season conference matches. Tournament host High Point earned the second seed, going 11-3 in league play. Liberty earned the third seed at 9-5. The Lady Flames have won a Big South-record seven conference titles overall, with the last coming in 2012.

UNC Asheville claimed the fourth seed, at 8-6, after sweeping Radford today, while Winthrop (7-7) is seeded fifth. Radford and Campbell finished tied for sixth in the standings, with the Highlanders taking the No. 6 seed by virtue of a series sweep of the Camels this year. Charleston Southern rounds out the tournament field at 4-10.

The 2015 Big South Volleyball Championship opens Thursday with four quarterfinal matches, and ends with the championship match on Sunday, Nov. 22. The Big South tournament champion earns an automatic qualification into the 2015 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship. Sunday's championship match will be aired live on
