Terrill Zentmeyer placed fifth at Friday's Hokie Open.
Junior Terrill Zentmeyer finished fifth in the women's 4K, highlighting Liberty's efforts at the Hokie Open on an unseasonably warm Friday afternoon at Virginia Tech's Buford Meredith Cross Country Course.
Liberty and host Virginia Tech were the only two women's teams to compete in the low-key meet, which closed out the 2015 season for most of Friday's entrants. The Hokies defeated the Lady Flames, 17-45, in the team scoring.
Zentmeyer's time of 15:01.7 placed her fifth of 16 runners in the 4K race, which was won by her assistant coach, Rebekah Ricksecker, in 14:34.8.
Sophomore Alyssa Karle followed in 15:16.8 for ninth place, while classmate Hannah Scherlacher was 11th with a 15:26.4 clocking. Freshman Kammi Kurtz (12th place, 15:33.0) and redshirt sophomore Alexis Taylor (14th, 16:11.4) closed out the Lady Flames' five scorers.
Redshirt junior Kaitlyn Hutchins ran 16:21.7 for 15th place, while Abigail Stanley clocked 16:58.1 for the 16th position in her Lady Flames debut.
The Flames and Lady Flames will return to action at the 2015 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships. The meet will take place at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va., on Nov. 13, beginning with the women's 6K at noon, followed by the men's 10K at 1 p.m.
