Lady Flames Remain Top 10 in NFHCA Coaches Poll

Week 8 NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll

The Liberty Lady Flames field hockey squad slipped one spot in this week's NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll but remains in the Top 10 as the No. 10 field hockey squad.

The Lady Flames' position in the NFHCA Coaches Poll marks the eighth consecutive week that Liberty has been stationed in the national rankings as the Lady Flames continue to garner recognition.

The 11-4 Lady Flames currently hold the No. 12 spot in the most recent NCAA Field Hockey RPI listings.

Liberty is coming off a pair of road victories this weekend over UMass Lowell and Providence. The Lady Flames outscored their opponents 12-3 en route to a 2-0 trip.

On Friday, Liberty tallied a program-record 40 shots and handed UMass Lowell its worst loss of the season, 8-0, in Lowell, Mass. Six different players accounted for the Lady Flames' eight goals, including a pair of goals from Natalie Barr and Alynn Richardson. Richardson's multi-goal contest marked the first time in her young career that the Missouri native has recorded two or more goals in a single contest.

Sunday's contest proved to be a tougher battle as Liberty was taken into overtime by Providence. The Lady Flames came out of Providence, R.I., as the victor following Bethany Barr's overtime goal. Barr paced the offense during the contest, netting two goals and dishing out two assists to account for at least one point in each of Liberty's four goals.

No. 10 Liberty shifts its focus to a pair of Top 5 opponents this week. The Lady Flames will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., on Thursday to take on No. 3 North Carolina at 4 p.m. Two days later, Liberty will play host to No. 4 Duke at 1 p.m. at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
