Oronde Vassell will compete for the U.S. Armed Forces Track & Field Team at the 2015 CISM Military World Games in South Korea.
Oronde Vassell, a 2010 Liberty graduate, has been selected to compete in the 2015 CISM Military World Games. He will take part in the 200 dash and long jump for the U.S. Armed Forces Track & Field Team, at the event slated for Oct. 2-11 in Mungyeong, South Korea.
The sixth CISM Military World Games will feature soldiers from 133 member nations around the world. The Military World Games have been contested each four years since the inaugural event in Rome in September 1995.
Vassell, who joined the U.S. Navy in 2012, is currently based at the Naval Air Facility in El Centro, Calif. He was honored as Junior Sailor of the Year in 2014.
At Liberty, the Brooklyn, N.Y., native saved his best year of competition for last. His 24-5.5 long jump at the 2010 Liberty Twilight Qualifier ranks No. 8 in program history and qualified him for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet. Vassell also helped the Flames' 4 x 100 relay quartet place seventh in the 2010 Penn Relays IC4A final and clock a time of 40.76 seconds at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier.
