Men's Tennis Announces Spring Schedule

2015-16 Men's Tennis Schedule

Liberty Men's Tennis Head Coach Chris Johnson has announced the team's spring schedule for the 2016 season.

Johnson, who is in his 10th year at Liberty, returns five players from last year's squad that finished 14-10 last spring, including a program-best 6-2 in Big South action. Johnson welcomes four new student-athletes to the squad, tying the largest recruiting class in program history.

This year's schedule consists of 13 home matches and 10 contests being played outside of Lynchburg, Va.

The Flames will open the spring schedule with a doubleheader on Jan. 22 against James Madison at 11 a.m. and Morehead State at 6 p.m. The contests will be held at the Sports Racket in Lynchburg, Va. The following weekend, (Jan. 30) Liberty will host its second consecutive doubleheader at the Sports Racket with Eastern Kentucky and King College.

To begin February, the Flames will host Furman on Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. and Elon on Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. Liberty will wrap up its eight-match home stretch on Feb. 13 with its third doubleheader of the season, this time against North Carolina Central at noon and Norfolk State at 6 p.m.

The red and blue will take to the road on Feb. 19-21 for the first time in the spring campaign. Liberty begins its four-game road swing with a 2:30 p.m. bout with Florida A&M on Feb. 19. The next day, the Flames will take on the Seminoles of Florida State at 10 a.m. Liberty will wrap up the weekend on Feb. 21 with a contest against The Citadel.

March 2 will serve as Liberty's Big South Conference opener when the Flames travel to Farmville, Va., to take on Longwood at 1:30 p.m. On March 5, the Flames will host their first conference matchup of the season against UNC Asheville.

Liberty will venture to the West Coast in California to square off against UC Irvine at 2 p.m. on March 9, followed by UC Riverside on March 10.

The Flames will play the remaining six Big South opponents through a span of March 19-April 7, with three of the conference bouts being in Lynchburg, Va.

The Flames will have a break during conference play when taking on two non-conference opponents, beginning with East Carolina on March 20 at 1 p.m. in Lynchburg, Va. Liberty's final non-conference match will be at UMBC on April 3 at 11 a.m.

Liberty will host this year's Big South Conference Men's Tennis Tournament from April 12-16.
