2015 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Team
Liberty senior golfer Mathieu Fenasse collected one additional honor yesterday, capping of his standout career by being named to the 2015 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Team for the second year in a row.
Fenasse graduated in May and has already begun his professional career in his native country of France.
Fenasse is the fourth golfer in program history to be named to multiple Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars Teams. He is joined on the short list by Jonathan Dickinson (2004 and 2005), Preston Dembowiak (2010 and 2011) and Ian McConnell (2013 and 2014).
Last year, Fenasse became the 11th golfer in program history named to a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars Team, which is organized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
To be eligible for the academic listing, a golfer much be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 (Division I standard) and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2.
A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
A total of 206 players in Division I, 91 in Division II and 17 in NAIA were named to the team this year. Additionally, 34 honorees were added to the previously released Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar listing.
Fenasse wrapped up his four-year career at Liberty in April, leading the team with a career-best 72.34 season stroke average. He posted six top 10 finishes in 12 events this season, spotlighted by earning medalist honors in the Liberty Spring Invitational.
Fenasse finished his career with a 73.41 stroke average, the third best career stroke average in program history. He had 16 career top 10 finishes, including two medalist honors victories (2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship and 2015 Liberty Spring Invitational).
Shortly following the conclusion of the 2014-15 season, Fenasse was named to the GCAA/PING All-Region team and the VaSID All-State second team. Fenasse was a three-time Big South All-Conference selection (2013, 2014 and 2015).
