Benson Named Associate Head Coach

Liberty Men's Tennis Assistant Coach Rich Benson has recently been promoted to associate head coach. Benson enters his third year with the Flames in 2015-16, having assisted in back-to-back winning seasons.

Benson was a three-time All-American tennis player at Kentucky. Benson went on to compete on the ATP Pro Circuit, reaching a world ranking of 525 in singles and 132 in doubles play.

"We are very happy to move Coach Benson into the role of associate head coach," commented head coach Chris Johnson. "He has certainly earned it. Not only does he do a great job with helping our guys develop on the court, but he has a passion and a gift for helping them off the court as well."

While under the assistance of Benson, the Flames are 26-20, including a 14-10 record in 2015. Liberty finished 6-2 in Big South action this year, marking the best conference record in program history.

Coach Johnson went on to state, "I don't think it's a coincidence that we have had two of our best years since Coach Benson has arrived. We are very grateful for the investment he gives every day."

"I appreciate the recognition from Coach Johnson regarding our team effort to build a nationally known tennis program here at Liberty," stated Coach Benson. "The commitment here to excellence in everything is just awesome. I believe we are going to start winning and Lord willing to not look back."
