Avery Warley-Talbert, a 2012 Liberty graduate, will tip off her fourth WNBA season Friday at 7:30 p.m., when her New York Liberty squad plays host to the Atlanta Dream at Madison Square Garden.
Warley-Talbert appeared in 28 games for the Liberty last season, starting 23 times. The 6-3 post player averaged 4.2 ppg and 3.8 rpg during her third season with New York, helping the Liberty go 15-19 and finish just one game out of the WNBA Eastern Conference Playoffs.
Coached by Bill Laimbeer, the Liberty's roster is headlined by center Tina Charles. She averaged 17.4 ppg and 9.4 rpg, earning second team All-WNBA honors during her first season in New York in 2014.
The all-time leading rebounder in Liberty and Big South Conference history (1,282 rebounds), the 28-year-old Warley-Talbert has been effective on the boards during her time in the WNBA with the Liberty, the Phoenix Mercury and the Chicago Sky. In 78 career games, she is averaging 11.5 rebounds per 40 minutes played.
New York will appear on ESPN2 on June 30, when the Liberty travel to Chicago to battle the Sky. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. at Allstate Arena.
