4 Liberty Athletics Teams Earn NCAA APR Awards

A record total of four Liberty athletics teams were listed among the 1,124 programs honored by the NCAA with Public Recognition Awards today. The awards honor teams for their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores, and are given each year to programs with APRs in the top 10 percent of their respective sport.

Liberty's field hockey, women's basketball, men's golf and volleyball teams all earned APR awards this year. It marks the third time that women's basketball has received this award, and the second time for field hockey, men's golf and volleyball. The field hockey and men's golf programs are repeat recipients from 2014.

"We congratulate each of the teams and individual student-athletes for their dedication to academic success," said NCAA President Mark Emmert. "This achievement demonstrates their hard work and the commitment of NCAA member schools to provide students with an opportunity to succeed academically and athletically."

Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement, known as APR. The score measures eligibility and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from 2010-11, 2011-2012, 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years.
