Mychelle Cumings placed in the top 10 of both of her events (shot put and discus) at the Texas Relays on Saturday.
Liberty redshirt junior Mychelle Cumings placed inside the top 10 in both the A section of the women's shot put and the B section of the women's discus on Saturday, the final day of the 88th Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Cumings started her day by throwing the discus 162-7 on her first attempt. That stood up as the Tennessee native's best mark of the competition and placed her sixth in the B section. Competing in the same section, teammate Jennifer Smith threw 150-0 for 10th place.
Cumings later matched her season-best shot put mark of 49-6.5, claiming ninth place in the event's A section.
At the same time, Fred Fulton was competing in the A section of the men's shot put. The redshirt junior claimed 10th place, thanks to a 57-2 heave on his second attempt.
The Lady Flames wrapped up a successful weekend of relay running with Saturday afternoon's 4 x 200 relay. Liberty's quartet of Abigail Flower, Dana Mercer, Olivia Davis and Kate Flower finished 10th in 1:38.72, becoming the fourth-fastest 4 x 200 quartet in program history.
Liberty will open its 2015 home schedule Friday and Saturday at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex, when the Flames and Lady Flames play host to the Liberty Collegiate Invitational. Action is slated to begin at 1 p.m. on Friday and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
