Video Views: 13154 continues its spring practice coverage today with LFSN reporter Alan York visiting with redshirt junior linebacker Nick Newman.

Newman had a breakout year in 2014, finishing second on Liberty's roster with a career-best 79 tackles (47 solo, 32 assisted). He tied for the team lead with three fumble recoveries, including one he returned 58 yards for a touchdown in Liberty's NCAA FCS second round matchup with No. 5 Villanova.

In his first full season at linebacker after moving from safety, Newman earned All-Big South second team honors. The coaching staff will be looking for Newman to take over a leadership role among the linebackers in 2015 following the graduation of four-year starting middle linebacker Nick Sigmon and senior starting strong side linebacker Bobby Partilla.

Liberty held its third workout of the week today from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Williams Stadium and second in as many days. The Flames will close out this week's busy spring practice schedule when they hold a closed scrimmage on Saturday afternoon (Noon to 2:45 p.m.). will continue its coverage of spring practice tomorrow when York visits with junior cornerback Wesley Scott.
