Brittany Yang's efforts this weekend were good enough to garner her second Big South Conference Choice Hotel Women's Tennis Player of the Week award, as announced by the league office today. Yang was the Player of the Week recipient earlier this month on March 4. Yang's honor marks the seventh time this season that the Lady Flames have received a conference award this season.
The senior stepped up in a big way for the Lady Flames in Saturday's 4-3 victory against the visiting Charleston Southern Buccaneers. With the match tied at 2-2, Yang delivered a come from behind victory against Mi'Kola Cooper in three sets. After falling in the first set, 6-2, Yang claimed the second set 7-5 to force the dramatic finish from the No. 5 singles slot. Down 4-0 in the third set and facing defeat, Yang regained her composure to rally for a furious comeback, winning seven of the last eight games to defeat Kooper in the third set, 7-5. Yang's victory provided the Lady Flames with a 3-2 to remain undefeated in conference action.
The Lady Flames return to action on Saturday when Liberty competes against Coastal Carolina at 12 p.m. at the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts. Saturday will also serve as senior day for Yang and Nicola Wellman.
