Lady Flames Travel to Buies Creek, N.C., Monday

The Liberty Lady Flames tennis squad travels to Buies Creek, N.C. on Monday to take on the Campbell Camels in a Big South battle at the Nisbet Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m.

The Lady Flames head into tomorrow's bout with a 13-2 overall record, including a perfect 3-0 Big South mark. In its most recent match, Liberty bested Charleston Southern by a score of 4-3 in Lynchburg, Va. The Lady Flames had to battle from behind after falling down 2-0 to the visiting Buccaneers. Liberty held its poise, winning four consecutive singles matches to clinch the victory, extending the Lady Flames winning streak to six matches.

The Lady Flames are led by the strong play of freshman Evangeline Crist. The Georgia native enters the match boasting a 12-1 singles record as well as a team-best 12-3 doubles mark.

Belen Rivera arrives to Campbell with the second best singles mark at 9-5. Emily Groeneveld, Mariely Hassey and Nicola Wellman are tied with the third most singles wins on the squad with eight.

Maria Khval and Valerie Thong are tied for the second best doubles record on the season at 11-4.

Campbell enters tomorrow's showdown on a similar stride, notching its fourth consecutive win on Friday after dropping Gardner-Webb by a score of 5-2 in Buies Creek, N.C. The Camels' victory placed Campbell one game above .500 with a 7-6 overall record, including a 3-2 conference mark. The Camels are a perfect 3-0 in matches played at the Nisbet Tennis Center.

Liberty holds the advantage in the series against Campbell, having won four out of the seven matches played on the tennis courts between the two programs. The Lady Flames seized the advantage last year after dropping Campbell, 4-3, on Feb. 22, 2014 in Lynchburg, Va.

Following tomorrow's match, Liberty returns home on Saturday for a conference showdown against Coastal Carolina. Saturday's match will mark senior day for the Lady Flames two seniors, Brittany Yang and Nicola Wellman. The conference bout is scheduled for 12 p.m. at the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts.
