Preparation for Liberty's 2015 football season got under way on Tuesday afternoon, as the Flames held their first practice session of the spring.
Liberty took to the Williams Stadium turf and adjacent practice fields around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, wrapping up the workout session around 6:30 p.m. With the harshness of winter having left Liberty Mountain during the last two weeks, the Flames practice under near ideal conditions (partly cloudy skies and 66 degrees).
Prior to today's workout, Liberty Flames Sports Network reporter Alan York had a chance to talk with fourth-year head coach Turner Gill.
Under Gill, the Flames have captured three straight Big South titles, spotlighted by last year's championship that pushed the Flames into the NCAA FCS Playoffs. Gill, who was named VaSID and Bobby Ross State Coach of the Year, led Liberty into the second round of the playoffs and to a 9-5 overall record. The Flames finished the season ranked No. 17 in both the Sports Network and FCS Coaches polls.
Liberty is slated to hold two more practice sessions this week, including a workout on Thursday afternoon (4 to 6:30 p.m.) and Saturday morning (10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.). A full spring practice schedule is available at the following link.
Later this week, LibertyFlames.com's coverage of 2015 Flames Football Spring Practice will including interviews with rising senior quarterback Josh Woodrum and defensive end Chima Uzowihe.
