After finishing as the No. 11 seed in Big South Conference play, the Liberty men's basketball team will square with No. 6 seed UNC Asheville in the opening round of the 2015 Big South Championship.

The contest will take place on Wednesday inside Coastal Carolina's arena, The HTC Center in Conway, S.C. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. with the contest airing live on the Big South Network. The winner will meet overall No. 3 seed and tournament host Coastal Carolina in the quarterfinals, Friday at 8 p.m. on ESPN3.

Asheville (14-15, 10-8 Big South) took both meetings against Liberty (8-23, 2-16 Big South) during the regular season, including this afternoon's contest (95-77). The Bulldogs also defeated the Flames inside Kimmel Arena on Jan. 8, 71-54.

The Flames and Bulldogs have met seven times in the Big South Championship, with Asheville holding a 4-3 advantage in postseason play. The last meeting between the two squads took place inside Asheville's former arena, the Justice Center, resulting in a 75-57 win for the Bulldogs (March 6, 2008).

Charleston Southern and High Point tied for the regular-season championship, and the Buccaneers are the No. 1 seed with the Panthers receiving the No. 2 seed.  As the teams split the season series, the next tie break was record against teams next in the standings.  Coastal Carolina was declared the No. 3 seed following its three-way tie break with Radford and Winthrop at 12-6, and was the determining factor in seeding CSU and HPU.  The Buccaneers went 1-1 against the Chanticleers, while the Panthers were 0-2, giving the Bucs the top seed.

The three-way tie between Coastal, Radford and Winthrop was also determined by the second step of the tiebreaking process.  Because the three teams played each other an unequal amount of times, head-to-head results could not be used.  The next step of records against the top teams in the standings was needed, and High Point was the determining factor in seeding CCU, RU and WU.  Coastal and Radford each went 2-0 against HPU, while Winthrop was 0-2 which slotted the Eagles to the No. 5 seed.  With CCU-RU now becoming a two-way tie, the Chanticleers' 65-59 victory over the Highlanders on Feb, 16 pushed the Chants to No. 3 and Radford to No. 4.

UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb tied for sixth in the standing at 10-8, and the Bulldogs of Asheville are the No. 6 seed based on their season sweep of the Runnin' Bulldogs, who fall to No. 7. Presbyterian College (6-12) is the eighth seed, followed by Longwood (5-13) at No. 9, Campbell (4-14) at No. 10 and Liberty (2-16) at No. 11.

No. 8 PC will open the first round of tournament against No. 9 Longwood at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4.  No. 7 Gardner-Webb and No. 10 Campbell will follow at 2 p.m., with No. 6 UNC Asheville facing No. 11 Liberty at 6 p.m.  Quarterfinal action begins Friday, March 6 with No. 1 Charleston Southern against the winner of Presbyterian/Longwood at 12 p.m., followed by No. 4 Radford vs. No. 5 Winthrop at 2 p.m.  The 6 p.m. game will feature No. 2 High Point vs. the winner of Gardner-Webb/Campbell, and defending Champion and No. 3 seed Coastal Carolina playing the winner of UNC Asheville/Liberty at 8 p.m.

As the No. 1 seed, Charleston Southern has secured the Big South's automatic bid to the NIT should the Buccaneers not win the Conference Tournament.

All games will be played at The HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. Single-session tickets will go on sale online only starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 1.

Fans may purchase single-session tickets in person or over the phone in addition to online starting on Monday, March 2 and at The HTC Center only starting Tuesday through the rest of the Championships.  Fans wishing to purchase tickets over the phone may call 843-347-8499.
