Liberty Takes on In-State Opponent, Richmond

After capturing their first win of the season on Wednesday, the Lady Flames lacrosse squad looks to keep rolling with a victory tomorrow against Richmond. The contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at the Liberty Lacrosse Field.

Series History Versus the Spiders                     
Liberty and Richmond will meet on the lacrosse pitch for the second time in program history. The Spiders captured a 16-7 victory in the first-ever meeting between the two squads on Feb. 7, 2014 in the season opener in Richmond, Va.

Previewing the Lady Flames
Liberty (1-3) hopes to build off its momentous win, with all eyes set on the second win of the season tomorrow. In their most recent contest against George Washington, the Lady Flames defeated the Colonials, 17-13, on Wednesday evening at the Liberty Lacrosse Field. This was the first time in program history that Liberty had defeated George Washington.

Katy Pridemore led all scorers with five goals during the contest to bring her goal total to a team-high 11. Sam Struss also added two goals of her own while recording three assists. Struss' two goals ties Pridemore with 11 goals on the year.  Kallie Britton and co-captain Morgan Becker each notched their first three goals of the season in the victory.

Juliann Elmer secured her first win of the season, turning away 15 shots and allowing only 13 goals in the victory. With her 15 saves, the junior has a Big South high 65 saves and a conference best 16.25 saves per game. Elmer also leads the team in groundballs with 12.

Previewing the Spiders
Richmond is off to a similar 1-3 start to the young season. The Spiders opened the season with a loss against then No. 8 Duke, 17-4, followed by a loss against then No. 7 Virgina, 14-6. Richmond notched their first victory this past weekend, besting American by a score of 5-4. However, the Spiders fell back on the losing side of things on Wednesday, falling to Longwood in Farmville, Va., 5-4.

Emily Doyle and Bailey Zerr pace the attack with four goals each, while Doyle leads the team in assists (3) and points (7). Through the first four contests, Richmond is allowing 10 goals per game, while only netting 4.75 goals of their own.

Emily Boyce has received the start in all four contests, notching 30 saves on the season thus far and boasting a .455 saves percentage. Boyce is also allowing only 9.81 goals per game.

Looking Ahead
Following tomorrow's contest, the Lady Flames will take to the road for an entire month before returning home. Liberty's road trip begins with a West Coast swing, squaring off against USC on March 9 at 6 p.m. ET, followed by San Diego State on March 13 at 10 p.m. ET.
