The Liberty Lady Flames tennis squad begins Big South conference play on Wednesday, hosting Longwood at 1 p.m. at the Sports Racket.
Liberty enters Wednesday's contest with a 7-2 record overall. In their most recent match, the Lady Flames saw their five-match winning streak snapped by No. 73 Marshall, 5-2 on Saturday at the Sports Racket.
Longwood arrives to Lynchburg with a 3-4 overall record. Wednesday's contest will open Big South play for Longwood. In the Lancers most recent contest, Longwood fell to Washington and Lee, 7-2, on Monday evening in Lexington, Va. The Lancers have dropped four consecutive contests after starting the season 3-0.
Liberty is paced by two-time Big South Freshman of the Week, Evangeline Crist, who currently holds a 7-1 overall singles record. Sophomore, Maria Khval, leads the way for the red and blue in doubles competition with an 8-1 doubles record, all from the No. 1 position.
Wednesday's match between the Lady Flames and Lancers marks the 14th time these two programs have squared off. Liberty currently leads the series, 9-4, after besting Longwood by a score of 7-0 in Farmville, Va. on April 9, 2014. The Lady Flames have won four consecutive matches against the Lancers.
Liberty is a perfect 2-0, when opening conference play in the friendly confines of the Hill City.
Following Wednesday's contest, the Lady Flames return to action on Saturday, traveling to Asheville, N.C. to take on conference foe UNC Asheville. The matchup is slated to begin at noon at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
