The Liberty Lady Flames are off to a red hot start with a program-best 7-1 record heading into this weekend's matchup against No. 73 Marshall. The contest is slated to begin Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Sports Racket.
In their most recent match, the Lady Flames bested in-state opponent James Madison by a score of 5-2 at the Sports Racket on Feb. 14. The victory marked the fifth consecutive advantage in Liberty's favor.
Liberty's Evangeline Crist was named the CRONS Freshman of the Week as announced by the conference office yesterday. Crist stepped up for the red and blue, clinching the match against the Dukes with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kimmy Herrock. The Lilburn, Ga., native looks to remain undefeated in singles play tomorrow, carrying a 7-0 record in singles competition.
The Thundering Herd comes to the Hill City, boasting a 5-2 record for the third time in the last five years. Marshall enters the match with a four-game winning streak of its own after besting then No. 66 Louisville, 5-2, and then No. 72 Minnesota by a score of 4-3.
Saturday's match between the Lady Flames and Thundering Herd marks the fifth time that these two programs have squared off. Marshall currently leads the series, 4-0, after ousting Liberty, 7-0, on March 8, 2014 in Huntington, W.Va. The last time the match was played in the Hill City was on April 6, 2013 when Marshall bested Liberty, 6-1.
Following Saturday's contest, the Lady Flames return to action on Wednesday in their Big South opener against Longwood. The home contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
