Liberty women's tennis freshman Evangeline Crist has been named the CRONS Brand Freshman of the Week, as announced by the Big South Conference, for matches played from Feb. 9-15.
Crist, a native of Lilburn, Ga., earns her second Freshman of the Week honor, her first being on Jan. 21. She is the first Lady Flame to earn the award twice in a single season since Maria Khval, who received the honor on Feb. 18, 2014 and April 1, 2014.
In Saturday's 5-2 victory over James Madison, the Lilburn, Ga., native dropped her first doubles match of the season by a score of 6-4. Despite the loss, Crist still leads the team in doubles with a 7-1 record.
Crist bounced back from the tough doubles loss to record her team-leading seventh singles victory on Saturday when she bested Kimmy Herrock of James Madison, 6-2, 6-0. Crist's straight-set victory was the match-clinching advantage over the Dukes, improving the Lady Flames to a program best 7-1 record. Saturday's clinching victory was the second in a row for the talented freshman.
The Freshman of the Week will look to help the Lady Flames continue their five-game winning streak this weekend when they host No. 73 Marshall at the Sports Racket in Lynchburg, Va. The contest is slated to begin Saturday at 1 p.m.
