Former Liberty volleyball standout Loren Thomas has begun a professional volleyball career overseas. A 2013 graduate, Thomas is in her first year playing for the Geraer Volleyball Club in Gera, Germany.
In conjunction with Bring It Promotions, Thomas participated in an exposure tour in Marlbor, Slovenia this past summer, where she was noticed by agents, who sent her to Gera, Germany for a tryout. Thomas made the team, and currently competes for the Geraer Volleyball Club in the third division of the Bundesliga. Geraer has posted a 6-4 record to this point in the season, which started in Aug., 2014. The season will conclude in April with postseason play.
Thomas is one of two Americans on Geraer Volleyball Club. The former Liberty standout is also joined by former All-Big 12 player Zoe Adom from Baylor. In addition, the team is comprised of players from Poland, Germany and Belarus. Geraer's head coach is Sylvia Roll, who competed for the German National Volleyball Team in the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics.
During her time at Liberty, Thomas established herself as one of the top blockers in the Big South. From 2009-12, she recorded 986 career kills (.300), while adding 477 career blocks. Thomas finished her career ranked second all-time at Liberty and sixth in conference history in career blocks. She holds the program rally-scoring records for blocks in a single match (13), single season (155 in 2001) and career.
A three-time all-conference player, she was named to the Big South All-Conference first team and VaSID All-State first team in both 2011 and 2012. Thomas helped the Lady Flames win Big South championships as a junior and senior. She twice appeared on the Big South all-tournament team, including Big South Tournament MVP honors in 2011. Thomas was awarded COBRA Magazine All-National honorable mention following her junior season.
Thomas graduated in 2013 with a degree in psychology. She has been pursuing a master's degree in education with a specialization in school counseling, with the goal of becoming a high school guidance counselor. She credits her education and volleyball training at Liberty with helping prepare her for this next stage of her life.
