The Liberty Lady Flames tennis squad's run came to an end at the ITA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, Sunday in Blacksburg, Va. Liberty received back draw wins from Emily Groeneveld and Maria Khval during Sunday's competition.
The Lady Flames' doubles teams of Evangeline Crist/Valerie Thong and Khval/Groeneveld represented Liberty in the quarterfinals on Sunday. Crist/Thong were upended by Virginia's Maci Epstein/Stephanie Nauta by a score of 8-5. Khval/Groeneveld posted similar results, falling in the quarterfinals to George Washington's Grace Egger and Teodora Radosavljevic by a score of 8-5.
Groeneveld turned around to compete in the consolation draw against Old Dominion's Marijana Novakovic. Groeneveld dropped the first set 6-0, before bouncing back in the next two sets, 6-3, 1-0 (5) to claim the victory.
Khval posted quicker results in her consolation draw contest against Maryland's Kristina Hovsepyan, defeating the Colorado native in straight sets, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
The Lady Flames return to action once more this fall, traveling to Morgantown, W.Va. on Oct. 31 to take part in the Martha Thorn Invite.
