Cuccio Tabbed NorPac Defensive Player of the Week

Liberty goalkeeper Mallory Cuccio has been named NorPac Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, for contests played from Sept. 22-28.

Cuccio, a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., earns her first Defensive Player of the Week honor of her three-year career.

Cuccio has been playing well as of late. During the Lady Flames five-game winning streak, Cuccio is averaging 1.00 goals allowed per game, bringing her season average down to 1.82.

Cuccio garnered the award for her performance this past weekend, after allowing one goal in two games. The junior goalie recorded her first shutout of the season in Friday's 5-0 victory over the Ohio Bobcats. Cuccio followed up her performance with a thrilling 2-1 victory over then No. 11 Louisville Cardinals, Sunday. Cuccio shut the door on the Cardinals' potential game tying penalty stroke, recording seven saves in the contest. The Cardinals had been averaging four goals per game coming into Sunday's game.

For the season, Cuccio has recorded 47 saves, surpassing her previous single-season saves high of 43, set back in 2012.

The Defensive Player of the Week will look to help extend the Lady Flames' winning streak this week as they play host to Longwood today at 4:00 p.m. Cuccio then will look to lead Liberty past its NorPac Conference foe Appalachian State, Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Liberty Field Hockey Field.
