John Lunsford is the fifth Flame to be named to a College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Watch List, as the junior was recently added to the website's preseason placekickers list.

The four previous Liberty players named to a CFPA preseason watch list at their respective positions include Jacob Hagen (defensive back), Darrin Peterson (wide receiver), Nick Sigmon (linebacker) and Josh Woodrum (quarterback).

Liberty has had two players previously win CFPA postseason honors: Chris Summers (CFPA Wide Receiver Award – 2010) and Kevin Fogg (CFPA Elite Kickoff Returner Award – 2011).

A total of 36 players were named to the CFPA Placekicker Watch List and Lunsford is one of two kickers on the list from the Big South Conference. Lunsford is joined by returning All-Big South first-team kicker Alex Catron from Coastal Carolina.

Lunsford was named to the Big South all-conference second team as a freshman and earned all-conference preseason honors heading into his sophomore season.

Last year, the native of Fort Myers, Florida, ranked second on the team and third in the Big South in scoring (77 points scored). He led the Big South in points scored by a kicker, as he averaged 6.4 points per contest.

He tied for fourth in the conference in 2013 in field goals (8-of-19) and was 2-of-4 on field goal attempts of 50 or more yards in length.

Lunsford never missed an extra point attempt as a sophomore, knocking down all 53 of his kicks. The 53 consecutive extra points are the second most by a player in a single season in program history.

He also finished the year averaging 61.0 yards per kickoff and 37 of his 69 kickoffs resulted in a touchback.
