Liberty second baseman Ryan Seiz had been named to the NCBWA All-American team.

Liberty second baseman Ryan Seiz has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers (NCBWA) NCAA Division I All-American team, the NCBWA announced this afternoon.

In addition, the infielder was also selected to the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Baseball All-Star Team, today.

Seiz was selected as the second base on the NCBWA All-American second team. The second baseman became the first Liberty player named to a postseason NCAA Division I All-American and the fifth All-American in program history, when he was named to the Louisville Slugger All-American second team, earlier this month.  He becomes the first Liberty player in program history to be named to a postseason NCBWA All-America team.

With Seiz's selection to the ECAC All-Star team, the Flames have had a player named to the team in each of the past three seasons. Catcher Trey Wimmer was named to the team last season, while outfielder Ian Parmley was selected to the team in 2012.

In his first season in a Liberty uniform, Seiz was voted the 2014 Big South Player of the Year and selected to the Big South All-Conference team. The infielder led the conference in runs scored, home runs, slugging percentage and total bases. He finished the year pacing Liberty in batting average (.351), runs scored (55), doubles (16), home runs (12), on base percentage (.429), total bases (137) and slugging percentage (.593).  He also had 43 RBIs.

Seiz became the first Liberty player to be listed as a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Award, which the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) gives annually to college baseball's top player. He also was a semifinalist for the Gregg Olson Award, given to collegiate baseball's "breakout" player of the year.

During the year, Seiz was named the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week for the week ending March 2, along with earning ECAC Player of the Week honors for March 30 of the season.  He was tabbed the Big South Player of the Week twice this season.

This past Saturday, Seiz was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 17th round of the 2014 Draft. The infielder became the third Flames player to be selected by the Angels in program history.

Seiz helped Liberty post a 41-18 record this past spring.  The Flames received the program's first ever at-large selection to a NCAA Regional and appeared at a regional in back-to-back years for the first time in team history.  With 41 wins, Liberty recorded the second most wins and posted the fourth 40-plus win season in in program history. In addition, the Flames set a program high for Big South Conference victories with a 23-3 mark in 2014.
