2014 Louisville Slugger All-American Seletions

Liberty second baseman Ryan Seiz has been named to the Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American team, the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper announced earlier this morning.

Seiz was selected as the second team second baseman. The junior becomes the first Liberty player named to a postseason NCAA Division I All-American and the fifth All-American in program history.

Seiz enters this weekend's NCAA Charlottesville Regional with a .362 batting average, 42 RBIs and 55 runs scored for the Flames, 41-16. The second baseman has hit 12 home runs and 16 doubles to post a .612 slugging percentage this season.

The 2014 Big South Player of the Year, Seiz leads the Big South Conference in runs scored, home runs, slugging percentage and total bases (137).  Also a member of the Big South All-Conference first team, he is among the conference leaders in batting average, hits, RBIs, doubles and on base percentage (.440).

The second baseman was twice named the Big South Player of the Week this season and was selected as the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week for the week ending March 2. Seiz has also been named a Dick Howser Award semifinalist, becoming the first-ever Liberty player to be chosen as a semifinalist for the award. The award is given yearly to college baseball's top player.  In addition, he has been listed on the Gregg Olson "Breakout Player" Award Watch list.

Seiz helped the Flames set a program record for Big South wins, as Liberty posted a 23-3 mark in conference play in 2014.  The Flames claimed their first Big South regular season title since 2000.

Seiz and Liberty received the program's first at-large bid to an NCAA Regional on Monday and will open play at the Charlottesville, Va. Regional, tomorrow.  The Flames, the No. 3 seed, will face the No. 2 seed Arkansas Razorbacks at 7 p.m.  The contest will be televised from Davenport Field on ESPNU.
