Sigmon Named to CFPA Linebackers Award Watch List

Three-time Big South all-conference selection Nick Sigmon has been selected as one of the top linebackers in the country heading into the upcoming FCS season as he was recently named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Linebacker Watch List.

A total of 38 players were named to the CFPA Linebackers Award watch list, including fellow Big South linebackers Quinn Backus (Coastal Carolina), Tanner Burch (Gardner-Webb) and Chad Geter (Gardner-Webb).

Liberty has had two players previously win CFPA postseason honors: Chris Summers (CFPA Wide Receiver Award – 2010) and Kevin Fogg (CFPA Elite Kickoff Returner Award – 2011).

Sigmon has been one of Liberty's defensive leaders each of the three years he has played. He earned Big South second-team all-conference honors in 2011 and was a first-team All-Big South selection in 2012 and 2013.

The senior linebacker has started 32 career games and is Liberty's active career leader with 174 career tackles in three years of play. Sigmon tied for the team lead and ranked No. 4 in the Big South in 2013 with 62 stops,

including a team-best 32 assisted tackles. Additionally, 32 of his 62 tackles came against Big South competition.
Sigmon was one of seven players on Liberty's roster to record an interception in 2013, helping the Flames finish the year ranked No. 5 in the country with 19 interceptions.

The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferment in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Twenty-eight CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections.

Last season, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston earned the CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy at the FBS level, while Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams earned the CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy.
