A third-place finish by the Liberty men's 4 x 100 relay squad in the IC4A final highlighted the Flames' Saturday at the 120th Penn Relays. Liberty raced before a crowd of 49,103 at Franklin Field, the seventh-largest attendance in meet history. The quartet of Stephen Hayes, Stephen Racanelli, Tarell Williams and ConRoy Smith clocked a season-best 4 x 100 time of 40.84 seconds, putting the Flames behind only Cornell (40.64) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (40.77) in a race televised live on the NBC Sports Network. It was the Flames' fastest 4 x 100 effort since Roderick Spruel, Leonard Robbins, Williams and Maxwell Asante posted a time of 40.74 at the IC4A meet on May 13, 2012. Liberty also achieved a season-best time in the college section of the men's 4 x 800 relay, as the Flames placed 10th in 7:39.62. Junior John Sherret gave Liberty the lead with a 1:52.84 opening leg, before handing off to Jarred Cornfield, Jacob Onifer and Colin Schultz. Freshman Aklesso Agama came in 15th in the college section of the men's triple jump, leaping 47-0.75 on his third attempt. The Flames will now prepare for their final home meet of the 2014 season, Wednesday's Liberty Twilight Qualifier. The one-day event will get started at 1 p.m. at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex with the women's discus and men's shot put.
