Flames Earn No. 3 Seed for Big South Men's Tennis Championship

After posting a school record five wins in conference play, the Liberty men's tennis team garnered the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Big South Men's Tennis Championship. The Flames will square off against No. 6 seed Coastal Carolina in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday in Boling Springs, N.C. The No. 3 seed is the highest seed in the history of the Liberty men's tennis program.

Liberty (5-3 Big South) and Coastal Carolina (4-4) recently met last Wednesday, with the Flames earning a come-from-behind 4-3 victory, snapping a three-match losing skid to the Chanticleers. Liberty is 1-2 all-time against Coastal Carolina in the Big South tournament.

Presbyterian College finished the season with a 7-1 Big South record to claim its first-ever Big South Men's Tennis Regular-Season Championship, while also earning the No. 1 seed for the first-time in school history.

Winthrop earned the No. 2 seed with a 6-2 Conference mark. Liberty and Campbell finished Big South play with identical 5-3 records. The Flames head-to-head win against the Camels earned them the No. 3 seed, while Campbell garnered the No. 4 seed.

Radford, Coastal Carolina and Gardner-Webb each finished with a 4-4 record in league play.  By virtue of head-to-head tiebreakers, the Highlanders earn the No. 5 position having gone 2-0 against the Chanticleers and the Runnin' Bulldogs this season.  Coastal takes sixth place, having split with Radford and Gardner-Webb, and Gardner-Webb is the No. 7 seed.  UNC Asheville picked up the No. 8 seed as it finished with a 1-7 league record, while Longwood rounds out the seeding with its 0-8 record against conference opponents.

The 2014 Big South Men's Tennis Championship begins Tuesday, April 15 with one match, and concludes with the Championship contest on Friday, April 18.  The Big South's tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship.
