Claire Fridey was 3-for-4 with a run scored in Liberty's victory over Georgetown to open the Blue Ridge Thunder Softball Tournament.

The Lady Flames recorded a season-best 15 hits, including a pair of home runs by Dawn Jeffs and Jessica Moore, to open up the 2007 Blue Ridge Thunder Softball Tournament with a 10-1 victory over Georgetown, Friday afternoon, at the Liberty Softball Field.

With the victory, the Lady Flames raise their record to 18-14. The loss drops Georgetown's record to 8-25 on the year.

The Lady Flames jumped out to a quick one-run lead in the first as Jessica Moore hit her team-leading ninth home run of the year, a solo blast to right-center field, giving Liberty a 1-0 edge.

Liberty added to its lead in the second thanks to another home run. Back-to-back singles by Claire Fridey and Courtney Johnson were followed by Dawn Jeffs' three-run round tripper to left-center field, her eighth of the year, extending Liberty's lead to four runs, 4-0.

The Lady Flames added an insurance run in the third inning as Beth Bennett was issued a free pass to start the frame and later scored on a RBI double down the left-field line off the bat of Fridey, pushing Liberty lead to five runs, 5-0.

Georgetown got itself on the scoreboard in the fourth inning as Jadig Garcia led off the inning with a single to left field and advanced to second as the relay back into the infield got away. The second baseman then took advantage of consecutive infield groundouts to cross the plate, scoring on Olivia Newhouse's grounder to shortstop to cut Liberty's lead to four runs, 5-1.

The Lady Flames added three more runs in the sixth, thanks to three hits and two Hoya errors. Shannon McKain started the frame with a single up the middle, followed by Moore's second home run of the game, a two-run shot over the fence in center field.

Ashley Williams kept things going for the Lady Flames as she reached on a fielding error. After a single by Beth Bennett allowed Williams to move to third, the catcher scored as Courtney Johnson was walked and the ball got past Suria Bahadue behind the plate, allowing Williams to score and push Liberty's lead to seven runs, 8-1.

Liberty tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh as Jeffs hit her second home run of the game, a solo shot off the scoreboard in center field, followed by Moore crossing the plate after a passed ball to give Liberty's its final margin of nine runs, 10-1.

Terra Lowe picked up her second win in three days at Liberty Softball Field as the senior scattered four hits and allowed an unearned run, while fanning nine batters to up her record to 7-5.

Liberty pounded out a season-high 15 hits during the game, including three hits by Jeffs (3-for-5), Williams (3-for-5) and Fridey (3-for-4). Both Jeffs and Moore connected on a pair of home runs in the game, with Jeffs recording four RBI and Moore adding three more RBI.

The Lady Flames will take on Hampton in Game 2 of the Blue Ridge Thunder Softball Tournament. Game time is set for 2:25 p.m.
