Nzea McQuitery posted 16 kills at a .345 pace over the span of eight sets on Saturday.
The Liberty volleyball team completed its second spring tournament of 2014 on Saturday, playing in an invitational hosted by the Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club in Virginia Beach, Va. On Saturday, the Lady Flames faced Norfolk State, George Washington, William & Mary and 2013 MEAC champion Hampton. Liberty opened the day with a sweep of Norfolk State (25-14, 25-23), hitting .310 as a team. Caroline Douglas sent down 10 kills at a .692 pace versus the Spartans. The Lady Flames then split two sets with George Washington (20-25, 25-21), as Douglas posted eight kills and Susan Babcock totaled four blocks. Liberty swept William & Mary, 25-21, 26-24, before dropping two sets to Hampton (19-25, 16-25). In the Hampton match, Douglas hit .417 with 12 kills. For the day, Liberty hit .254 as a team, with Douglas leading the Lady Flames with 36 kills (4.5 kills per set) at a .333 average. Nzea McQuitery hit .345, finishing second on the team with 16 kills. Babcock and Melissa Racz tied for the team lead with six total blocks apiece. The Lady Flames close out their 2014 spring schedule on April 19, competing at Virginia's Memorial Gymnasium. While in Charlottesville, Va., Liberty will face the host Virginia Cavaliers, along with James Madison and Maryland.
