Liberty junior Jennifer Nicholson threw the discus a personal-best 164-11, marking the Lady Flames' top performance during Saturday's action at the 87th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Nicholson achieved her big throw during the sixth and final round, moving up to second place in both Section B of the event and in program history. Nicholson, whose previous best of 161-8 came at the 2013 Liberty Twilight Qualifier, now ranks fourth on the Big South Conference's all-time women's discus list. The Lady Flames also concluded a successful weekend of relay running by clocking the second-fastest 4 x 200 relay time in program history, 1:38.58. The quartet of Oasis Hernandez, Meghan Burggraf, Janae Jones and Abigail Flower placed 13th overall in the event. Liberty will divide its team once again this coming week. Most of the Flames and Lady Flames will compete in the first home meet of the 2014 outdoor season, the Liberty Collegiate Invitational, Friday and Saturday at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex. Meanwhile, a small group of distance runners will race at the prestigious Stanford Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
