The Liberty softball team posted three three-run innings, supporting a two-hit shutout by Annah Jo Brittingham in a 9-0, five-inning victory over N.C. Central, Friday at Liberty Softball Field.

With the win, the Lady Flames (3-23) snapped an 18-game winless streak which began on Feb. 16. N.C. Central (3-18) saw its three-game winning streak come to a close.

Brittingham (2-13) tossed her second career shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out two and walking three.

NCCU's Dominque Wilson (2-9) drew the loss, yielding six runs, four earned, on six hits in three innings of work. Breanna Hampton pitched the fourth inning, giving up three runs on three hits.

Megan Robinson batted 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. Sammi Shivock hit her 25th career home run, moving her into a tie for fifth in program history, while also driving in three runs. Hanna Nichols plated two runs and Kelby Allen scored twice. Katie Zavodny went 1-for-3 with her 17th stolen base of the season.

London Germ and Angelique Perricelli both recorded one base hit for the Eagles.

The Lady Flames jumped ahead with a three-run first inning. Robinson and Allen hit back-to-back one-out singles, and Shivock followed with a drive over the center field fence for a 3-0 Liberty advantage.

The first two Eagles reached during the top of the second, on a walk and a bunt single. A sacrifice bunt sent runners to second and third with two outs. Lawrence chased down a Markell Wylie fly to left, ending the second frame.
Brittingham worked around a leadoff single in the third inning, getting the final out on a strikeout.

Liberty tacked on another three tallies during the third frame. With runners on second and third, Nichols hit a two-run single to center and advanced to second on the throw. Katie Han later hit an RBI groundout, scoring Nichols for a 6-0 Liberty lead.

After Brittingham and the Liberty defense continued the shutout in the top of the fourth, the Lady Flames' offense boosted its lead to nine during its fourth at bat. Hampton came on in relief of Wilson to start the frame. Grace Nordan and Zavodny both singled, and then Robinson hit her team-leading fourth home run of the campaign, a three-run shot to left center.

Brittingham put the finishing touches on the shutout with a strikeout, groundout and popout in the fifth stanza.
