The Liberty Flames football program continued its annual spring practice session, Saturday morning, at Williams Stadium with its second of 15 scheduled practices during the season.

"Today we came out on offense to establish our outside run game," said head coach Danny Rocco. "We have designed running plays for Rashad [Jennings] and Zach [Terrell] to get them on the perimeter and take advantage of all those yards on the outside."

For the second-straight day Rocco and the rest of the Liberty coaching staff spent Saturday's session working on several specific points of emphasis on offense, defense and special teams.

To utilize the yardage on the outside, plays were designed for the running backs to get to the outside quickly. Wide receiver screens were also instituted to take advantage of outside yards.

Defensively, the Flames emphasized their blitz package. "We took a big step forward with our blitz package," commented Rocco. "We are working on pressuring the quarterback while making sure our defensive backs are not left vulnerable in the secondary."

Danny Rocco was pleased with the way quarterback Brock Smith and linebacker Vince Redd practiced today. "Brock looked real sharp today," said Rocco. "He is focused, understands the playbook, making great throws and good decisions. Vince is making great progress and he is going to be a force rushing the passer."

The Flames return to the FieldTurf at Williams Stadium on Wednesday when they will practice for the first time with full pads. The spring season's third practice is scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m. and should conclude around 6:15 p.m.
