Katie Han went 3-for-3 with a stolen base, recording her first career three-hit game on Friday.
Charlotte posted an 8-0 win over the Liberty Lady Flames on Friday, during game two of the 49er Invitational, being held at Phillips Softball Complex. The 49ers' record improves to 6-5 on the season with the win, while the Lady Flames are now 2-12 after falling twice on day one of this weekend's invitational in Charlotte. Charlotte pitcher Lexi Betancourt (6-1) pitched a complete-game three-hitter, with eight strikeouts and one walk. Alyssa DiMartino (1-5) allowed eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits, while striking out one batter. Jessica Plemmons batted 3-for-4 with a double, homer and four RBIs. Jackie Kleinsmith hit 2-for-4, doubling, homering and driving in three runs. Katie Han went 3-for-3 for the Lady Flames, recording her first career three-hit game while also adding a stolen base. Grace Nordan and Blair Lawrence both recorded steals as well. The 49ers jumped ahead in the top of the first. Natalie Capone led off with a single, and went to second on a sacrifice bunt. Plemmons came through with a two-out RBI double to right center, good for a 1-0 Charlotte lead. Liberty threatened to score during its second at bat, as Annah Jo Brittingham drew a walk after one out. Megan Robinson drove a pitch to the wall which was dropped by the left fielder, putting runners on first and second. Han sliced a single to left, and Brittingham was thrown out attempting to score from second. The inning ended on a Nordan groundout. Lawrence reached on an error to begin the bottom of the third, and she stole second. Lawrence then made a heads-up play, taking third on a foulout to the first-base side. Betancourt escaped the threat, keeping Liberty scoreless with back-to-back strikeouts. After giving up an RBI double with one out in the first, DiMartino retired the next nine batters in a row before Ingersoll hit a two-out infield single during the fourth frame. DiMartino hit Haley Lewis with a pitch, and Jessie Fennell followed by singling to right field, scoring Ingersoll for a 2-0 Charlotte edge. Charlotte pushed its advantage to six by plating four in the top of the fifth. With runners on first and second and one out, Kleinsmith hit an RBI double. Plemmons then hit a three-run blast to right, making the score 6-0, 49ers. Han led off the fifth with a single. Following a fielder's choice, Nordan swiped second. Betancourt retired the next two Lady Flames in order, sending the game to the sixth inning. The 49ers added two tallies during the top of the seventh. Slade led with a fly ball to right that was dropped, allowing Slade to reach third. Kleinsmith slammed a home run to left, making it 8-0. The inning ended with a diving catch by Brittingham at third base. Han hit a one-out single in Liberty's last time at bat, giving her a career-best three hits on the game. She stole second, but was left there as the final two batters recorded outs. Liberty will next face defending America East champion Stony Brook tomorrow, in a game set to start at 10 a.m. The Lady Flames then will play in a semifinal contest at 2 p.m. or 4 p.m.
