Jarred Cornfield's 2:28.40 clocking in the 1,000-meter run on Saturday qualified him for the IC4A meet.
After missing the IC4A qualifying standard for the 1,000-meter run by one-tenth of a second at Monday's Liberty Quad, Liberty redshirt junior Jarred Cornfield made the most of his second chance on Saturday. Competing at the Virginia Tech Challenge at Rector Field House, Cornfield punched his IC4A ticket with a 2:28.40 clocking. Cornfield finished third in the event, ironically dipping exactly one-tenth of a second under the IC4A standard of 2:28.50. The Empire State native will now have the opportunity to race at 1,000 meters in the IC4A meet for the third time in his career. Cornfield has enjoyed past success in the 1,000 at the IC4A meet, recording a personal-best time of 2:25.94 in 2011 and finishing sixth in the event final last season. Cornfield and the rest of the Flames will return to Blacksburg for the 2014 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Rector Field House.
