Sophomore Jess Reinhardt swam an NCAA B cut time of 54.22 in the 100 fly on Friday.
The Liberty swimming & diving team received NCAA B cut performances from senior Emilie Kaufman and sophomore Jess Reinhardt, during day two of the 2013 Hokie Fall Invitational, Friday at Christiansburg Aquatic Center. The Lady Flames remain in sixth place, with a two-day total of 215.5 points. Host Virginia Tech leads the way with 952.5 points, far ahead of second-place South Carolina, at 493.5. William & Mary (369.5), Ohio (361) and UConn (281) hold third through fifth, respectively. This week's event follows the same event format as the 2014 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships. However, the Hokie Fall Invitational allows for unlimited entries for each team. Reinhardt swam 54.35 during 100 fly qualifying, earning a spot in the A final. She then lowered her season best to 54.22 in the final, placing second while meeting the NCAA Division I B standard. Kaufman clocked a 1:03.20 in 100 breast prelims to gain an A final appearance. She then placed third overall in the final, lowering her time from qualifying by one second, to a season-best 1:02.20. Her time of 1:02.20 met the NCAA B standard. The Lady Flames' 200 medley relay swam the second fastest time in program history, taking second place overall in 1:40.39, just .02 off of the school record. Kendall Hough, Kaufman, Reinhardt and Meghan Babcock swam on Liberty's A relay, which placed second. Junior Emily Duff earned a spot in the B final of the 400 IM, swimming 4:34.80 in the morning. She then swam a collegiate-best 4:33.63 during finals, placing 15th overall. Senior Bethany Kennon advanced to the 100 fly C final, swimming 57.33 during prelims, before placing 24th overall in 57.95 during the finals session. Freshman Morgan Noonan posted a 1:07.56 qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke, and then went 1:08.38 in the C final to earn 21st place. Hough's prelim clocking of 58.04 earned her a C final swim in the 100 back. She registered a 59.04 in the consolation final, earning a 24th-place finish overall. Liberty concludes its participation at the Hokie Fall Invitational, tomorrow. Day three of the invitational begins at 10 a.m., with 200 backstroke prelims. Tomorrow's finals session starts at 4 p.m., and ends with the 400 free relay.
