Maren Announces 2014 Women's Tennis Schedule

2014 Women's Tennis Schedule

Entering his second year at the helm of the women's tennis program, Liberty head coach Jeff Maren has released the Lady Flames' slate of contests of the 2014 spring season. Matchups against nationally ranked Kansas State and North Texas, as well as three other regionally ranked opponents, await Liberty this spring.

The Lady Flames will play 22 total matches in 2014, with six matches taking place at the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts. Liberty faces 13 nonconference opponents in addition to nine contests against Big South foes. The season will conclude with the Big South Women's Tennis Championship hosted by Gardner-Webb on April 16-18 in Boiling Springs, N.C.

"Our spring schedule reflects the team's desire to raise the bar for success," commented Maren. "In order to accomplish our goals we must play against opponents that will force us to compete at a high level every week. I believe that this year's schedule will do just that."

Liberty opens the season with five consecutive matches away from Liberty Mountain. The Lady Flames begin the year with a pair of tilts on Jan. 18 at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulpher Springs, W.Va. Liberty will compete against Morehead State and North Carolina Central.

Maren's squad closes out January with a trip to challenge West Virginia on Jan. 25. The Mountaineers concluded the 2013 spring slate ranked eighth in the ITA's Atlantic Region.

The Lady Flames then travel to Manhattan, Kan., on Feb. 1 to play Kansas State, who finished last spring ranked No. 54 in the nation. On Feb. 2, Liberty contests the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kan. The Lady Flames return east to square off against 2013 Atlantic 10 runner up George Washington on Feb. 15.

On Feb. 21 and Feb. 22, the Lady Flames will play their first two home matches of the season. Liberty faces Morgan State on Feb. 21, before opening its Big South schedule versus Campbell on Feb. 22.

Liberty takes to the road for its longest stretch of away matches, beginning on Feb. 26 at Longwood. The Lady Flames then head to South Carolina to challenge Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern on March 1 and 2, respectively.

Liberty's seven-match road swing continues on March 8 against Marshall. The Thundering Herd finished the 2013 spring schedule ranked No. 7 in the ITA's Atlantic Region.

The Lady Flames then trek to the Lone Star state for a trio of contests. Liberty squares off versus UTSA on March 11, before playing a neutral site tilt in Denton, Texas, against New Mexico on March 14. The following day the Lady Flames face reigning Sun Belt Conference champion and 61st ranked North Texas.

Liberty returns to the friendly confines of the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts for three consecutive conference matches, beginning on March 21 against Gardner-Webb. The Lady Flames then welcome six-time defending Big South champion Winthrop on March 22. Liberty's three-match home stand concludes on March 28 versus UNC Asheville.

The Lady Flames final three away contests will come against Presbyterian College (March 30), Radford (April 2) and East Carolina (April 5).

Liberty wraps up its regular season on April 11 with a home match against Richmond.
