Richmond Posts 152-138 Win Over Liberty

Liberty swimming & diving, competing for the second day in a row, Saturday, sustained a 152-138 setback to defending Atlantic 10 champion Richmond at the Robins Center Natatorium.

The Lady Flames' dual-meet record evens at 4-4 on the campaign. Richmond is now 6-1, bouncing back from a setback at East Carolina, last Saturday.

Liberty picked up eight event victories in the pool, including three from Emilie Kaufman. Meghan Babcock (50 free), Jess Reinhardt (100 fly), Emily Duff (200 back) and Kristin VanDeventer (500 free) also earned individual wins. The Lady Flames' 400 free relay squad won, in 3:31.42.

The Spiders won the remaining eight events, including a 32-2 advantage in diving points.

Richmond won the 400 medley relay, in 3:50.62. Liberty's quartet of Kendall Hough, Kaufman, Reinhardt and Babcock swam 3:52.61 to take second place.

Kaufman recorded three wins for the second night in a row. She won the 100 breast in 1:04.14, edging Richmond's Mali Kobelja by .23 seconds. Kaufman later earned a 200 breast victory, in 2:19.73, outpacing her closest competitor by over six seconds. Morgan Noonan took third in the 200 breast, at 2:27.43. Kaufman completed her trio of victories by winning the 200 IM in 2:03.80.

Babcock won the 50 free for the third meet in a row, touching the wall in 23.92. Chloe Thomas placed second in the 50, at 24.69. Babcock later earned a second-place 100 free finish, swimming 53.33.

Duff claimed the 200 back victory with a 2:05.10 clocking, after placing second in the 100 back, in 58.37.

Reinhardt picked up her third straight 100 fly victory, swimming 55.47, while Bethany Kennon (56.60) followed in third place. Kennon earlier swam 2:07.32 for second place in the 200 fly.

VanDeventer gave Liberty a win in the 500 free with a 5:07.04 clocking. Teammate Heather McCorkel finished third, in 5:09.87. VanDeventer (1:56.71) and McCorkel (1:56.90) took second and third, respectively, in the 200 free.

The Lady Flames went 1-2 in the 400 free relay, with McCorkel, Reinhardt, Hough and Babcock going 3:31.42.
Hannah Wakeley posted a third-place finish in the 1000 free, swimming 10:42.79.

Liberty diver Courtney Fox scored 193.65, placing fourth in one-meter diving.

Liberty has wrapped up its fall dual-meet schedule, and will next compete at the Virginia Tech Invitational, held at the Christiansburg Aquatics Center, Nov. 21-23.
