Liberty's Alexis Taylor wrapped up a promising freshman season with a 13th-place finish, highlighting the Flames' performances at Friday afternoon's low-key Hokie Open. The women's 4K was scored as a team competition, with host Virginia Tech posting a 15-50 victory over Liberty. In the men's 6K, the Flames did not record a team score, as Jacob Onifer was the lone Liberty runner to compete. Taylor completed the 4K course in 15:20.8, placing 13th of 23 women's runners. Fellow freshmen Lindsey Bray (15:38.2) and Terrill Zentmeyer (15:44.8) finished right behind her in 14th and 15th, respectively. Yet another freshman, Megan Versen, served as Liberty's No. 4 finisher on the day, placing 17th in 16:01. The Lady Flames' efforts were rounded out by Kaitlyn Hutchins (20th place, 16:13.6) and Mary Cate Cooper (22nd place, 16:20.6). On the men's side, Onifer posted a 6K time of 19:39.9 for 16th place in the 24-member field. Two Flames also competed unattached, with Josh Showalter finishing ninth in 19:12.3 and Will Templeton coming in 18th in 20:05.8. Liberty's top seven men's and women's runners will travel to Earlysville, Va., on Nov. 15 for the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships. The meet, which will determine the qualifiers for the 2013 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, will be the Flames' third race of the year at Panorama Farms. The men's 10K championship race will begin at noon, followed by the women's 6K championship at 1:15.
