2014 Lacrosse Schedule
First-year head coach Kelly Nangle has released the Liberty Lady Flames' upcoming 2014 lacrosse schedule. Highlighting the Lady Flames schedule are road contests at Virginia Tech and NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship participant Navy, in addition to home matches with Old Dominion and defending Big South champion High Point.
"We are very excited for our 2014 schedule," commented Nangle. "We have added a lot of quality teams that are going to challenge us. We are excited to get going and play against some great competition."
Entering its second season of play in the Big South, Liberty will play seven league games and 10 nonconference contests. The Lady Flames will play eight games at Liberty Lacrosse Field and nine road tilts.
Liberty returns eight starters from last season's squad, which tallied a program-record eight victories. The Lady Flames posted a 4-3 conference record and earned a berth in the inaugural Big South Lacrosse Championship semifinals.
Liberty opens the season with three consecutive road contests, beginning on Feb. 7 at Atlantic 10 opponent Richmond. The Lady Flames will then trek to Nashville, Tenn., to face the Vanderbilt Commodores on Feb. 15. Three days later, Liberty will challenge defending Patriot League champion Navy on Feb. 18. The Midshipmen finished the 2013 season ranked No. 12 in the deBeer Media Poll, after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship.
The Lady Flames' home opener at Liberty Lacrosse Field is set for Feb. 21 versus first-year program Elon.
Next up, Liberty travels to the nation's capital to face Atlantic 10 tournament semifinalist, George Washington, on Feb. 26.
On March 5, the Lady Flames begin their longest home stretch of the season with a match against George Mason. Liberty continues its three-game homestand on March 9 versus Old Dominion, before concluding the stretch on March 15 against La Salle.
Liberty's next four contests will take place away from the Hill City. The Lady Flames travel to take on Robert Morris on March 22, before concluding nonconference play with a tilt versus ACC foe Virginia Tech on April 2.
The Lady Flames' first Big South game of the season is slated for April 4 against Campbell. Following the contest with the Camels, Liberty treks to Clinton, S.C. to meet Presbyterian College on April 6.
Four of the Liberty's final five games will be played at home, beginning with an April 11 showdown with defending Big South champion High Point. On April 13, the Lady Flames welcome Coastal Carolina to Liberty Mountain.
Liberty will make its final road trip of the season to Davidson for a matchup with last season's Big South tournament runner-up on April 18.
The Lady Flames close out the regular season with a pair of Big South home contests. On April 25, Liberty will play Winthrop before finishing against Longwood on April 27.
The 2014 Big South Lacrosse Championship will take place on May 2 and May 4. The No. 1 seed for the tournament will serve as the host for both the semifinals and the title game.
