Liberty senior Emilie Kaufman was named CCSA Swimmer of the Week.
Following a successful performance at the Virginia Tech Swimming Challenge, Liberty senior Emilie Kaufman has been named the CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week. Kaufman, a Kirkland, Wash., native, collects her fourth career Swimmer of the Week honor. She received the award three times last season, her first year at Liberty after transferring from Rutgers. Kaufman won the 50 breaststroke, swimming 28.49 to defeat the closest competitor by 0.79 seconds. She then placed second in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:17.41. Her 200 breaststroke time placed her seventh in the nation, through last weekend's action. She concluded the meet with a third-place showing in the 50 fly, finishing in 25.26 seconds. The senior swam the second leg on Liberty's 200 medley relay in 28.16, helping the Lady Flames claim victory over both Virginia Tech and North Carolina in 1:42.95. Liberty's time ranks 10th nationally for the 200 medley relay. Kaufman also completed the second leg of the 400 medley relay, in 1:01.64, as Liberty took fourth while swimming 3:46.59. Following a week off from competition, the Lady Flames will travel to East Lansing, Mich., for a tri-meet hosted by Michigan State on Oct. 25. Liberty will face a pair of Big Ten opponents, in the host Spartans and Illinois.
