The eight-time defending Big South champion Liberty men's cross country team is ranked No. 8 in the Southeast Region to start the 2013 season, as announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Eastern Kentucky tops the regional rankings, followed by defending Southeast Region champion Virginia. ACC squads N.C. State, Duke and North Carolina round out the top five, in that order. The Flames return three runners who placed inside the top 52 (Ngetich Kipchirchir, Caleb Edmonds, Jeremie Bourget) at the 2012 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships, helping Liberty place seventh at the meet. Past All-Big South performers Josh MacDonald and Will Templeton are also back for Liberty in 2013. The top two finishers in each region will earn automatic berths to the 2013 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., where they will be joined by 13 at-large teams from across the nation. This year's NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships will be held on Nov. 15 at Virginia's Panorama Farms course in Earlysville, Va. Liberty will get a look at Panorama Farms right away, as the Flames and Lady Flames open the 2013 season on Friday at the UVa Duals. The meet is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
