Senior Micailah Sloman, junior Helen Doolittle and sophomore Natalie Barr will serve as the team captains for the 2013 field hockey season, head coach Jodi Murphy announced. The trio will lead a team which posted a 16-6 overall record and captured the NorPac East Division title after notching a 7-1 conference mark.

Sloman, who joined the squad during the 2013 spring semester, will be playing in her first season with the Lady Flames while pursuing a masters degree. The Komga, South Africa native completed her undergraduate career at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa. While at Rhodes, Sloman led her team to an appearance in the 2012 African Universities B Division tournament. She was given the Rhodes team award for the most improved player. Sloman was a multi-sport athlete during her time at Rhodes, participating in water polo, swimming and squash, in addition to field hockey.

A first-year team captain, Doolittle has been a mainstay in the Liberty lineup since its inaugural season in 2011. The junior has started every game over the past two seasons, providing stability to both the midfield and defensive lines. In 2012, Doolittle registered 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists), including game-winning tallies versus Missouri State (Sept. 30) and Radford (Oct. 12). The Lancaster, Pa. native also excels in the classroom. Following the 2012 season, Doolittle was named to the NorPac All-Academic team, NFHCA National Academic squad for the second straight year and the Capital One Academic All-District III At-Large Team.

Barr, entering her second season with the program, is a team captain for the first time. Barr is coming off an impressive freshman campaign in which she earned multiple post-season awards, including NorPac East Division Offensive Player of the Year, East Division All-Conference honors, a Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-South Region second team recognition and a VaSID all-state first team selection. The Lurgan, Northern Ireland native paced Liberty with 40 points on 16 goals and eight assists in 2012. Barr's point and goal totals ranked her first nationally among freshmen.

Sloman, Doolittle, Barr and the rest of the Lady Flames open the 2013 season on Aug. 30 versus Saint Joseph's. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Liberty Field Hockey Field.
